Most backyards sit underused. Bare dirt, no real place to sit, nothing that makes you actually want to spend time out there. That's exactly what we're working with on this one - and we're changing all of it.

This build covers three connected areas: a new deck off the house, a separate sitting area, and a dedicated hot tub pad. Each zone serves a different purpose, but together they turn a plain backyard into something you'd actually use on a regular basis. We're grading and prepping the ground properly before anything goes down - that part matters more than most people realize. A solid base means the finished surfaces stay level and stable long-term.

The deck framing is built on concrete footings, and we're running composite decking in a gray finish with dark-painted fascia boards along the edges. It's a clean look that holds up well with minimal upkeep. No staining, no sealing every couple of years. The stepped entry coming off the main deck platform gives it a finished, intentional feel rather than just a flat slab sitting on the ground.

Alongside the deck, we're setting a paver sitting area using large-format pavers laid in a grid pattern. That space will be where seating, a fire pit, or whatever the homeowner wants to put there can live separately from the deck itself. Having two distinct zones like this is what makes a backyard feel like an actual outdoor living area rather than just a patio slab out back. The hot tub pad is also being prepped and will tie into the overall layout once we're further along.

This kind of project takes careful sequencing - demo, grading, framing, decking, and hardscape all have to happen in the right order. We're in the thick of it right now, and it's already coming together well.
